Just two years on from becoming The Brain Charity we are delighted to have been granted The Queen's Award for Voluntary Service, the highest award given to volunteer groups across the UK.
In a special ceremony on the 4th of September the award was presented by Dame Lorna Muirhead, the Lord Lieutenant of Merseyside, to volunteer Kim Hughes who accepted it on behalf of the charity.
The High Sheriff of Merseyside Stephen Burrows and Lord Mayor of Liverpool Malcom Kennedy were also in attendance and our friends at the Co-Op Myrtle Street store provided a buffet for everyone to enjoy after the ceremony.
Laura Murphy, one of our volunteers said it was “an amazingly proud day” for all of our volunteers. Jan, another of our volunteers, said it was an “honour and a privilege” to win the award and Emily one of our youngest volunteers summed it up by saying that it was “a truly inspirational day”. Everyone enjoyed the afternoon and the celebrations continued well into the evening.
