The Brain Charity is a charity which supports anyone with a neurological condition such as brain injury, dementia, learning disability, stroke or brain tumour. We’re looking for somebody with excellent communication and assessment skills to work with individuals to offer them emotional support through a range of talking therapies.
The Counselling Coordinator will be part of The Brain Charity Services Team, which offers counselling and therapeutic interventions to people affected by a neurological condition, their friends, family or carers including young people.
The post holder will provide and co-ordinate counselling provision. They will manage the counselling waiting list, the referral pathways, be responsible for client assessment and the implementation of the risk management guidelines. They will hold responsibility for the co-ordination of a team of volunteer counsellors and they will also hold a small caseload of their own.
Your key responsibilities:
• To assist in the recruitment and induction of all counsellors and supervisors
• To provide both practical and emotional support to counsellors and deal with and resolve in participation with the services manager, any ethical issues which may arise through either counselling or supervision
• To undertake assessments of potential clients and refer to the most appropriate counsellor and talking therapy
• To ensure contact with clients on the waiting list is maintained and updated on a regular basis
• To manage a small caseload of clients
And what you'll need:
• Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
• Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to generate effective working relationships with experienced counsellors and student counsellors
• The ability to work independently and on your own initiative, to prioritise work and to work to deadlines effectively
• Strong computer skills: MS Word, Excel, Outlook & internet
• Well organised and able to manage a wide and varied caseload
• Ability to communicate with people from a wide range of backgrounds and with a wide range of abilities
