Twenty five years of the Glaxo Centre, Neurosupport and The Brain Charity - something really worth celebrating!
The incubation period was far from smooth, feathers were ruffled and egos bruised, but the small team of folk from the Regional Health Authority (remember Health Authorities?) were expert at solving problems, placating difficult officials and telling me what I had forgotten or never knew. The Health Authority has long gone but I remain grateful to Peter, Mac, Eric and Sir Donald for moulding the naive idea into a practical reality.
Of course the success of the enterprise is entirely down to the volunteers, staff and trustees who have planned and delivered such a wide range of events, actions and activities with such commitment and enthusiasm.
You have listened, advised, supported and enabled; you have created links with the community and with hospital trusts, especially The Walton Centre, and so much more. And the work continues in spite of changes in society, in health care funding and changes in central government policies.
Over the past 25 years many people have told me just how much they have valued and benefitted from all of this.
Here's to the next 25!
