Directions project at The Brain Charity

The diagnosis of a neurological condition is life changing. Everyone will have a different experience. For some it may be a bolt from the blue: a stroke for example or another emergency situation. For others it may be a long road of hospital visits, tests and deteriorating health before a diagnosis is made. Whatever the circumstances it has a massive impact on lives. Family and friends may struggle to adjust to the ‘new you’ and your lifestyle may have drastically changed to accommodate your new capabilities.

Many people find that they are no longer able to work as they previously did. This can have a devastating effect on their self-esteem and pride as well as finances.

The Directions project at The Brain Charity aims to support individuals with neurological conditions to come to terms with their particular employment changes.

This support will include a variety of different methods to improve confidence and self- esteem. We offer one-to-one counselling if people have specific issues that they need help with. These issues could include anxiety, PTSD or lack of self-confidence. You may wish to re-train in a new type of work. We have access to training and education opportunities, aiming to make bespoke matches according to individual needs. Above all we offer individual support and personal mentoring to enable people to access different pathways to volunteering, work experience or specific employment opportunities.
