A Liverpool Christmas party with a difference

Updated: December 2023

Masters of electronica, Mark Radcliffe’s UNE headlined our immersive night of electro music past and present for A Night at the Electro Circus.

Staged in the beautiful surroundings of Lutyens Crypt at Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral, our unique Christmas charity fundraiser took place on Friday 1st December 2023.

This stunning venue offers a dramatic backdrop for UNE’s music and visuals.  Taking inspiration from Kraftwerk and the Pet Shop Boys, UNE is the creation of Radio 2 and 6 Music presenter Mark Radcliffe and techno boffin Paul Langley – the Chris Lowe to Mark’s Neil Tennant.

For a Liverpool Christmas party with a difference, our evening began with a spectacular show – A Night at the Electro Circus – featuring circus acts and a cast of stage, film and TV performers.

The musical soundtrack featured hits from the 70s, 80s and 90s so you could sing along!

Then it was time for our main course – our special guests, Mark Radcliffe’s UNE.

Purveyors of ‘pop music for dreamers’, the electronic duo paint achingly beautiful soundscapes from ‘Spomenik’ (their album based on the space age-like monuments scattered around the former Yugosolavia) to their latest release ‘Whirl’ which, in the words of one reviewer, offers ‘perfect serious comedy harmony’.

The band has played festivals including Bluedot at Jodrell Bank, and earlier this year supported Turin Brakes on their national tour.

To end the night, we enjoyed a special DJ set from Charlotte Davies, who spun some favourite dance anthems.

This was a show for music fans everywhere – so whether you’re into electro or a bit of Northern Soul, this must-see Christmas special had it all.
