Thinking of the future – support The Brain Charity by leaving a gift in your will

For over 30 years, The Brain Charity has been providing support for people living with all forms of neurological conditions.

We want to continue providing practical help, emotional support and social activities for another 30 years – and beyond.

Leaving a gift to The Brain Charity in your will helps us to think of the future, ensuring our services can continue for many years to come.

We’ve created a free guide containing practical information about writing your will and how you can leave a gift to The Brain Charity.

You can download the guide here or request a physical copy to be posted to you for free on the contact form at the bottom of this page.

Why should I leave a gift in my will to The Brain Charity?

The Brain Charity is the only UK charity providing specialist support for every single neurological condition, no matter how rare.

Every year we:

  • Support approximately 3,000 people with neurological conditions to better understand and manage their diagnosis.
  • Deliver over 2,500 counselling sessions to support mental health and reduce the symptoms of anxiety, depression and stress.
  • Provide over 3,500 hours of social activities to prevent social isolation and give our clients the opportunity to try new hobbies and learn new skills.

“Coming to The Brain Charity… I could just be me!”

A gift in your will helps us to support more people living with rare neurological conditions, like Christine.

Christine lives with hyperekplexia (HPX), a rare condition which causes balance issues, jerking movements, cognitive difficulties and extreme muscle rigidity among other symptoms.

She came to The Brain Charity for support with her Personal Independence Payment (PIP).

Although her claim was initially rejected, our Information and Advice team helped take the case to tribunal and she was awarded PIP for the first time in 34 years with back payments.

Christine now regularly attends social activities at The Brain Charity.

“Coming to The Brain Charity, it was overwhelming to be with so many disabled people, but it was also so freeing because I could just be myself.

What are the tax benefits of leaving a gift to charity in my will?

Leaving a gift to charity in your will can mean you will be entitled to tax relief.

Charitable donations will be deducted from the value of your estate before Inheritance Tax is calculated.

If you leave at least 10% of your total estate to charities, your overall Inheritance Tax rate can be reduced, meaning your loved ones will get more of what you leave to them.

What impact can a gift in my will have for The Brain Charity?

Gifts of all sizes can make a huge difference.

  • £1,000 could fund social activities for 200 people living with neurological conditions, including yoga classes, art sessions and ukulele lessons.
  • £10,000 could fund our Information and Advice Service for a week, providing support to approximately 46 individuals at the point of diagnosis in hospital.
  • £55,000 could fund counselling sessions for over 300 individuals struggling with their mental health.
  • £160,000 could fund four years of our life-changing Brain Changer Arts Project, providing physio and occupation therapy through arts to children and young people.
