Why choose neuro-specialist counselling?
Finding the right therapist can be difficult for people living with a neurological condition. In standard therapy, clients often have to repeatedly explain their diagnosis, symptoms and lived experience — which can be tiring, slow down progress, and leave them feeling misunderstood.
Our neurological counselling service is different
At The Brain Charity, our specialist therapists already understand a wide range of neurological conditions. Many have personal or professional experience supporting people with long-term or newly diagnosed conditions. This means clients don’t have to start from the beginning or educate their therapist — they’re understood and accepted from the very first session.
This immediate understanding helps clients feel safe, heard and supported, creating a strong foundation for effective therapy and long-lasting emotional wellbeing.
Many clients tell us that working with a therapist who genuinely gets neurological conditions is transformative.

Suze De Lee

Suze is a person-centred expressive arts therapist who supports people with brain injuries, neurodiversity, disability, and LGBTQ+ identities to explore experiences such as anxiety, grief, loss, and identity through creativity. Her therapeutic approach is grounded in compassion, deep listening, and the belief that every person holds an innate wisdom to guide their own healing.
She has worked with adults navigating a wide range of challenges, including life transitions, health concerns, stroke, functional neurological disorders (FND), chronic pain, and a longing to feel more at home in themselves. Suze gently integrates creative approaches, emotion-focused felt-sense techniques, and somatic awareness rooted in the mind–body connection.
Suze holds a Master of Science in Psychotherapy and Counselling with Creative Approaches from Edge Hill University, where she completed a placement at The Brain Charity. Her master’s research explored how expressive arts and walking in nature can support neurodiverse women experiencing peri- and menopausal symptoms.
With over 15 years of experience as a community and arts worker, Suze continues to be an active artist and poet alongside her therapeutic practice.
Sarah Leckie
Sarah is a person-centered counsellor with over six years of experience supporting clients with a wide range of neurological conditions. Drawing on both professional training and lived experience of neurodiversity and managing a neurological condition, Sarah offers an empathetic and authentic approach to therapy. She holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy Practice from Liverpool John Moores University and has a particular interest in neurodiversity, loss, and grief.
Moira McCarthy

Moira is a fully qualified therapist and counsellor with an MA in Theology and a Diploma in Counselling. She is registered with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). Moira takes a person-centred approach to therapy, working collaboratively with clients to ensure sessions are personalised, coordinated, and empowering.
She supports individuals facing a wide range of mental health challenges, including depression, addiction, anxiety, stress, relationship issues, bereavement, trauma, and other forms of emotional pain. Moira provides a confidential counselling service that is empathetic, non-judgmental, and tailored to each client’s unique needs.
Madeline Hall
Her work often includes embodied and creative approaches, such as breathwork, therapeutic writing, drawing, mindfulness, and using objects within the therapy space.
Cultural sensitivity is fundamental to Madeline’s practice. She works to ensure her approach is anti-oppressive, anti-racist, and anti-ableist. She is LGBTQIA+ friendly and practises in a trauma-informed and neuro-affirmative way. Therapy is adapted to suit the individual needs and issues of each client, with the aim of fostering new insights and understanding.
Madeline has over 17 years of experience working with neurodivergent individuals across diverse settings including education, the arts, and psychotherapy. She also brings lived experience as a neurodivergent person herself, which informs her deep understanding of neurodiversity and strengthens her connection with clients navigating similar experiences.
She works with adults one-to-one and in groups, in person across Liverpool, and also offers sessions by telephone or online for clients further afield.
