About The Brain Charity

Life for any of us can change in an instant. Experiencing a road traffic accident, a major stroke or being diagnosed with dementia can happen completely unexpectedly and can change our lives forever.

There are hundreds of different neurological conditions including stroke, brain tumour, brain injury, Alzheimer’s and many rarer ones too.

The Brain Charity offers emotional support, practical help and social activities to anyone with a neurological condition and to their family, friends and carers.

Role summary

The Administrative Assistant will provide general administrative support to the Counselling Service and assist the Counselling Service Manager as required.

Key responsibilities

General administration

  • Provide comprehensive administrative and clerical support to the Counselling Service and the Counselling Service Manager, including tasks such as photocopying, scanning and data entry.
  • Respond to enquiries related to the Counselling Service, referring matters to the Counselling Service Manager or appropriate staff members where necessary.
  • Prepare and produce correspondence, documents, spreadsheets, and reports as requested by the Counselling Service Manager, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Maintain and update both electronic and paper-based filing systems in accordance with organisational procedures and data protection requirements.
  • Contact clients to confirm and remind them of scheduled appointments, maintaining a courteous and professional manner at all times.
  • Support the Counselling Service Manager with administrative duties such as minute-taking, record-keeping as required.

Other

  • To carry out any other duties required by the Counselling Service.
  • Work to The Brain Charity’s policies and procedures.
  • Actively support promotional and fundraising events for The Brain Charity, attending a minimum of 1 fundraising or client-focussed event over the course of a year.
  • Assist and support volunteers within the team as and when required.
  • Carry out any other reasonable tasks which may be required by the charity from time to time.
  • Regularly provide cover for all aspects of the department you belong to during any absence relating to your colleagues.

Role description

Role title: Finance Volunteer (Qualified or Part-qualified)

Location:   Norton Street, Liverpool

Responsible to: Head of Finance and Volunteer Coordinator

Indirectly represents The Brain Charity as a whole.

Summary of role description:

Our finance team is small and made of up a Head of Finance and 2 part-time finance staff.
This role is ideal for those who are qualified in finance and accounting and want to perform a practical, hands-on role.  You will need to have experience of accounting software packages (we use Sage), month-end processing, month-end reporting, annual financial statements and, of course, be highly numerate.

The applicant will need to have a good knowledge of Excel.

You will have an eye for detail and be able to pick up tasks quickly and work unsupervised.

Some of the responsibilities may include:

  • Standard month-end processing, including accruals, prepayments and deferred income
  • Fixed Asset accounting
  • General assistance with the month-end management accounts, reporting and analysis
  • Balance sheet reconciliations
  • Assistance with the year-end audit and audit queries
  • Continued process improvements and Sage automation

We are hoping to welcome a Finance Volunteer who can support us for one full day each week. This will help us ensure continuity and provide valuable assistance to our finance team in delivering essential services efficiently.

About the role

As a Gym Admin Volunteer, you will support the smooth running of The Brain Charity’s specialist Neuro Gym by welcoming members, keeping accurate records, and assisting with basic administration tasks. You’ll help create a safe and supportive environment where people affected by neurological conditions can improve their health and wellbeing.

We would not be able to provide our services without the support of amazing people like you who offer their time to The Brain Charity. We would love for our volunteers to be able to attend at least 1 day per week for 4-7 hours per day although we know this may not always be possible.

Key responsibilities

  • Welcome gym users and ensure they sign in and out. 
  • Provide information about gym facilities and activities. 
  • Keep accurate records, including bookings, attendance, and referrals. 
  • Answer telephone and in-person enquiries about the gym. 
  • Use basic computer skills for admin tasks, such as updating spreadsheets or gym records. 
  • Liaise with staff to ensure smooth communication between the gym and other departments. 
  • To liaise with / arrange Gym Induction sessions and reminders for weekly Neuro Physio appointments.

The Brain Charity offers emotional support, practical help and social activities to anyone with a neurological condition and to their family, friends and carers.

Role summary

To volunteer with gym activities / personal training sessions & / or group exercise classes within our NeuroGym facility.

Supporting with exercise and fitness activities to include Cardio / Strength / Fitness exercises with the safe use of all exercise and gym equipment.

Help and support with small group sessions / personal training / circuit training activities within a gym environment.

To support our gym clients with Boditrax scans and Physitrack exercise plans.

We would not be able to provide our services without the support of amazing people like you who offer their time to The Brain Charity. We would love for our volunteers to be able to attend at least 1 day per week for 4-7 hours per day although we know this may not always be possible.

Note: A full gym tour / demonstration of all current gym equipment will be conducted by our Gym Supervisor.

About the role:

As an Info and Advice Volunteer, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals who contact The Brain Charity for help.

Under the guidance of the Norton Street Information and Advice staff, you’ll provide empathetic, professional assistance to clients by calling them back to gather details of their enquiry, communicating waiting times for support, and updating records. Your contribution will help us deliver timely and effective support to those who need it most

We would not be able to provide our services without the support of amazing people like you who offer their time to The Brain Charity. We would love our volunteers to be able to attend at least 1 day per week for 5 hours per day although we know this may not always be possible.

Key responsibilities

  • Call clients back to gather essential details for follow-up work.
  • Listen empathetically to clients and ensure clients feel heard.
  • Communicate waiting times for support clearly and professionally.
  • Review older waitlist enquiries to confirm if support is still required.
  • Upload client details accurately onto the CRM system.
  • Work closely under the guidance and supervision of the Norton Street Information and Advice staff.
