How to request support for your research project
The Brain Charity regularly receives research requests from academics seeking to recruit participants for studies relating to neurological conditions. We recognise the importance of research in improving understanding, treatment, and support — and we are committed to supporting ethical, meaningful projects wherever possible.
As a small charity supporting people affected by neurological conditions across the UK, we need to carefully manage the number of requests we receive to ensure they align with our mission and capacity.
How we consider research requests

All research requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Completing our request form helps us understand your project clearly and determine whether, and how, we may be able to support you.
Please note that submitting a request does not guarantee promotion or recruitment support. Decisions are based on factors including:
- Relevance to people affected by neurological conditions
- Ethical approval and safeguarding considerations
- Potential benefit to participants and the wider neurological community
- Our current capacity and resources
What support we may be able to offer
Where appropriate, and subject to capacity, support may include:
- Sharing opportunities via our website, newsletter, or social media
- Signposting opportunities to our service users
- Advising on accessible and inclusive recruitment approaches
We are unable to:
- Directly recruit participants on your behalf
- Share personal data or contact details of our clients
- Support projects without appropriate ethical approval
Ethical approval

We only consider requests for research projects that have received ethical approval from a recognised ethics committee, or where ethical approval is actively being sought and clearly explained.

Supporting The Brain Charity
As a small charity, reviewing and supporting research requests requires staff time and resources. While not required, researchers are invited to consider making a voluntary donation to The Brain Charity as a thank you for our support.
