Meet Scott, Neuro Gym lead at The Brain Charity
Meet our team
Scott leads The Brain Charity’s Neuro Gym – a unique, fully accessible gym in Liverpool city centre that is completely free for anyone affected by a neurological condition.
Working within our health and well-being services, Scott supports people in their rehabilitation journeys, helping them rebuild strength, confidence, and independence.
What makes his role stand out is the way he combines specialist equipment with encouragement and tailored guidance, creating a safe and empowering space for recovery.
Background and journey

Scott’s journey at The Brain Charity began as part of the employment team, where he worked for a couple of years supporting people into work.
When funding from the National Lottery Community Fund made it possible to open the Neuro Gym, Scott applied for the gym supervisor role and was successful.
His experience at the charity, combined with his enthusiasm for helping people with neurological conditions, made the role a perfect fit.
Role and responsibilities

Day-to-day, Scott oversees the upkeep and operation of The Brain Charity’s Neuro Gym. The gym operates a full timetable from Monday to Friday, 9 am-5 pm, which includes activities, sessions, personal trainers and physiotherapists.
He works directly with gym users, guiding them through exercises that improve mobility, balance, and confidence. Scott inducts every single client into the gym and runs sessions throughout the week, ensuring everyone feels confident and supported.
The Neuro Gym is equipped with wheelchair-accessible machines and adaptive tools, ensuring inclusivity for all. Scott also works closely with other teams at The Brain Charity to ensure the gym complements wider services, and he continues to adapt the timetable to meet the evolving needs of the community.
Impact and highlights
For Scott, the highlights come every day – welcoming people with neurological conditions and watching them progress with their exercise and well-being. One of his proudest moments was the opening of the Neuro Gym and realising just how many people it could help.

Since its launch, the Neuro Gym has supported 450 people and recorded over 6,500 individual visits in the past year alone. Collectively, members have run, walked, rowed and cycled over 13,800km – almost enough to travel around the whole world!
The impact goes far beyond numbers:
- 85% of Neuro Gym users improved their physical health after just three months, rising to 100% after nine months.
- 68% reported better mental well-being after three months, increasing to 81% after nine months.
- 74% saw their confidence grow after three months, with 93% reporting improved confidence after nine months
Whether it’s walking unaided, regaining strength, or simply feeling more confident, the Neuro Gym is there for everyone; gym users have described the space as life-changing, and said joining is the best thing they’ve ever done.
Scott is also proud of the gym’s challenges and events, including cardio equipment competitions and the recent Santa Dash in Liverpool, where 11 Neuro Gym clients took part. Many who joined two years ago continue to attend regularly, demonstrating the lasting impact of the service.
Personal insights

Scott enjoys the variety of his role and the chance to witness progress first-hand. He values the resilience and determination of the gym users, which motivates him daily.
Outside of work, Scott likes to exercise, play football and golf, and spending time socialising and looking after his two daughters. A fun fact that surprises many is that Scott is a certified dolphin trainer!
Scott’s leadership in the Neuro Gym shows how tailored, accessible exercise can transform lives.
The Brain Charity’s Neuro Gym is free for anyone affected by a neurological condition, making it a vital resource for our community.
