Neurodivergent poet and neurodiversity trainer Gregory Kearns launches new poetry podcast

The Poems We Made Along The Way

The first time Gregory Kearns worked with The Brain Charity he was still an undergraduate at Liverpool John Moore’s University.

He and a friend came in to run poetry workshops with the charity’s service users and nearly 8 years later both poetry and The Brain Charity are still big parts of Gregory’s life.

The pilot season of The Poems We Made Along The Way has five episodes.

In each, Gregory interviews a different poet about their work and how community informs their writing practice.

Some of the episodes discuss what it is like to be a neurodivergent poet including discussions with Malika Booker and Mark Pajak.

Gregory says:

My dyslexia and ADHD play a fundamental part in how I navigate poetry. I am easily overwhelmed by aggressively dense paragraphs of prose.

“With poetry, or at least the poetry I like, non-standard uses of spelling, grammar and syntax can be used to explore how we relate to language.

“As neurodivergent people, often we sit outside of what is considered ‘normal’ or ‘typical’ and especially in the case of poetry this is a massive boon.

“In two episodes of this season, I talked to two poets who also have dyslexia and was thrilled to discuss how it impacted their writing.”
