Anna’s subarachnoid haemorrhage story

"My Nonna was the heart of our family, warm, nurturing, and endlessly generous"

We know that the holiday season can be a difficult time for those who have experienced the loss of a loved one. The reality of grief, especially when traditions are associated with their memory, can be a sad reminder of their absence.

Our partnership with MuchLoved

The Brain Charity works in partnership with MuchLoved, the in-memory platform, to provide a free, unique and personal way to remember someone.

A MuchLoved tribute is your online space to create a lasting memorial to your loved one and remember everything that made them so special. Here, you can share memories, photos, stories, music, and videos to celebrate their life.

You can also collect donations for The Brain Charity in their honour, if you wish; however, this is not necessary to set up a page.

A Nonna’s legacy

Aimie Palumbo set up a MuchLoved tribute in memory of her grandma (or ‘nonna’, in Italian), Anna. Her family has raised over £3,000 for The Brain Charity in her memory.

Aimie told us:

“My Nonna was the heart of our family, warm, nurturing, and endlessly generous. She was someone who made everyone feel held, whether through her food, her laughter, or her presence. Losing her so suddenly in August, to a spontaneous subarachnoid haemorrhage, was devastating. It was something none of us expected, and it is something we are still learning to live with.

“She taught us the true meaning of family, to stand by each other, to share in each other’s joy and to hold on tightly during life’s storms. Her sudden passing has left us in shock and deep sorrow, but her spirit will live on in the stories we share, the recipes we cook and the traditions we keep.”

A way to honour Anna

Anna has left behind an incredible legacy: the amount raised for The Brain Charity in her memory could help fund 115 sessions of Counselling, helping many individuals who are experiencing depression or anxiety following a diagnosis to improve their mental health.

“In the grief and shock, we wanted to find a way to honour her that reflected her love and compassion. That’s why we chose to create a MuchLoved tribute page and raise money for The Brain Charity. We wanted to support a charity that provides practical and emotional support for individuals and families affected by neurological conditions. Knowing that there are people out there navigating uncertainty, fear and recovery, just as we were, made us want to help in whatever way we could.

“The tribute page became more than just a fundraiser. It became a space where her memory could live, in the stories people shared, the photos, the little moments that captured her spirit. Seeing the donations and heartfelt messages come in has been incredibly moving. It has reminded us of how deeply she touched people’s lives and how her love continues to ripple outwards.

“Raising over £3,000 in her honour means more to us than I can put into words. It is a testament to who she was, someone who brought people together. Knowing that this money will go on to support others in moments of crisis, healing, or vulnerability makes us feel like her kindness and care are still reaching into the world.

“Her absence is felt every day, but being able to contribute to something positive in her name brings us comfort, pride, and a sense that her legacy is still shining, still doing good, just as she always did.”
