Fundraiser Fraser posing in his The Brain Charity running shirt

9-year-old Fraser runs 100km in April to support The Brain Charity

Young runner raises money in memory of loved ones and to support people with neurological conditions.

Nine-year-old Fraser Cooper spent April 2025 a little differently by running an incredible 100 kilometres to raise money and awareness for The Brain Charity.

Throughout April 2025, Fraser hit the pavement nearly every day, running 3–4km at a time (and sometimes even pushing to 5km) to reach his goal. It’s a huge challenge for anyone, let alone a year five pupil—but Fraser didn’t do it for medals or records. His motivation was far more personal.

Inspired by loved ones

Fraser, who is currently undergoing an assessment for autism, has always seen the world in his own unique way—and he’s using that to drive something positive.

He runs not just to support The Brain Charity, but in honour of his great gran Pam, who is living with Alzheimers, and in memory of his much-loved auntie Mandie—known fondly as “Mantie Mandie”—who passed away suddenly in February 2025 following a brain haemorrhage

Fraser said:

“I chose to do this challenge as I wanted to help other people in any way I could. The Brain Charity is one that has lots of connections to things that have happened to me and my family, and I hope the money will help them continue their hard work helping lots of people.”

Smashing his target

Fraser originally set out to raise £200—but he’s already flown past that, raising over £800 (and climbing as of writing) thanks to support from friends, family, and his wider community. Every donation will go towards helping people affected by neurological conditions.

His mum, Sarah Cooper, said:

“Fraser’s gran was always such a bubbly, caring lady. Watching her battle Alzheimer’s for so many years has been heartbreaking, but Fraser is determined to help others who are affected by neurological conditions in her honour. His little legs are going to have to work hard to get through 100km, but he’s determined to help other families who need support just like we did.”

How to support Fraser

Fraser’s challenge is a reminder of the difference even the youngest people can make. Every step he runs in April is in honour of so many and with each kilometre, he’s helping make life better for others.
