Will You… Help The 1 in 6 With Neurological Conditions?
Pass on something wonderful this Remember a Charity Week
The Brain Charity is proud to partner with Remember a Charity, joining 200 fellow charities to raise awareness of the importance of legacy gifts in wills.
On September 11th – 17th we celebrate Remember a Charity Week. This is a great time to think about writing or updating your will, as well as the legacy you want to leave behind.
Why is a will important?
The last few years have prompted many of us to reflect on the things that matter the most – family, friends and the causes close to our heart. We’ve also been reminded of the value of planning for the future, to help us look after the things we care about most.
Having an up-to-date will ensures that your property, money and possessions are inherited by the people you choose. It can offer you the peace of mind that your loved ones will be taken care of in the future.
Why should I leave a gift to charity in my will?
16% of wills in 2022 included a gift to charity, totalling a record-breaking £21.3bn donated to causes across the UK. Once you have taken care of your loved ones, even a small amount left to charity can make a huge impact for future generations.
Leaving a legacy to a charity can also benefit your loved ones. A gift to charity reduces the value of your estate before inheritance tax is calculated, lowering the amount your other beneficiaries will have to pay. The overall rate of inheritance tax can be reduced if you leave 10% or greater of your estate to charity.
You don’t even have to commit to a specific amount; a percentage as small as 1% of your estate can make a huge difference and you don’t need to worry about keeping money aside.
A gift in your will costs nothing in your lifetime but can change the lives of those living with neurological conditions in the future.
How can I write my will?
The Brain Charity offer a free will writing service through our partners Kwil all year round. When using the service, you can choose to leave a legacy donation to us, although this is completely optional and there is no obligation to do so.
