The Brain Charity’s inspirational Employment Officer John Perry has landed a new title – a National Lottery Legend - after a short film paying tribute to his work gained thousands of views online.
With the help of a National Lottery grant of £9,500, John has been able to offer help and advice on a one-to-one basis, whether you're looking to get into employment or already have a job. John can also ensure that your employer is adhering to their legal obligations to help you get the support you need.
John, who has been blind since the age of 3 and also has a neurological condition has been both employed, and self-employed for many years has himself benefited from the Access to Work scheme, which he has found invaluable in providing computer hardware and software that enables him to do his job, as well as a PA to give him the assistance he needs.
His story has proved to be very popular, since it was featured on the National Lottery’s Good Cause Facebook page clocking more than 6,000 views.
Nanette Mellor, chief executive of the Brain Charity, said: “John is a brilliant member of staff, who just gets on with his job and does it with great heart and passion.
The money we have received from the National Lottery has allowed us to focus our employment services to work really intensely with individuals who have had to retrain or rethink their work life because of their neurological conditions.
John walks side by side with these people and figures out what they can do, analyses their skills and talents and helps them get back on track with a new career.”
Jackie O’ Sullivan, from the National Lottery, added: “National Lottery legends come in all shapes and forms. They are the ordinary people in our society who do extraordinary things with the help of National Lottery funding.
“The National Lottery helps legends like John Perry to change lives. National Lottery players can be very proud to have helped support such an amazing individual and project.”
John Perry and The Brain Charity are featuring in the National Lottery Legend campaign which celebrates the life changing difference made by people and projects across the UK.
